Fingerstrikket solskin / Finger-knitted sunshine

2026

‘Finger-knitted sunshine’ is a participant-based ritual that was performed in connection with a spring equinox celebration. The audience was asked to hand-knit a sunbeam out of yellow yarn.

Finger-knitting is a quite useles technique that many Danes are introduced to in their school days, but not many remember the technique as adults.

Participants were encouraged to help each other. Everyone had to use their entire roll of yarn, and by the end of the ritual, place their homemade sunbeam on one of the other participants.

The performance was part of the exhibition ‘JÆVNDØGNKIOSK – tilstande mellem mørke og lys’. A group exhibition by Jette Ellgaard and Berit Nørgaard.
